There was tension on The One Show sofas on Monday evening (April 15) after a guest made an unexpected remark about co-host Jermaine Jenas. Jermaine, 41, and Welsh presenter Alex Jones, 47, were joined on the programme by actor Ben Miller, comedian and author Jo Brand and actress Kacey Ainsworth and were telling viewers about the upcoming tour for popular BBC2 series Between the Covers.

It sees the celebs discuss some of their favourite books and popular new releases. After Jermaine joked that the studio was turning into the "One Show book club," Jo pulled a face and asked him what he's currently reading - but interjected before Jermaine had a chance to answer her.

"What's your recommendation?" she said. And as Jermaine started to reply: "I like to read-" Jo questioned: "Books about football?" An awkward laugh could be heard in the studio as Alex and Jermaine caught each other's eye.

"Jermaine reads a lot more..." said Alex. "I mean talk about stereotyping, Jo," Jermaine added. "That's out of order. But yes, yes I do [read about football]. The Legacy is one of my [favourites] or Shoe Dog."

Earlier, the group had explained what people can expect from the Between the Covers Live tour. "For those that haven't seen it, this is like the best book club around, isn't it," said Alex. "You discuss new releases, everybody brings something they've loved reading over the years - it's a lovely watch."

Explaining the premise, Kasey Ainsworth added: "Well, it's going to work by expanding what you do on the TV already, also we're adding some new elements - we're going to bring our own books, we're also going to have an author who is going to come on and speak about what we think is going to be the 'blockbuster' of summer, and we've also got an author who will come on in the second half.

"So it's kind of expanding on what you see in the TV show and it's so successful that they [BBC2] want to take it out on tour so that more people can see it." "It's going to be fun, it's going to be a good laugh," added Jo.

"The audiences don't even have to read the books if they don't want to, they can just come along." It was Alex's first episode back after taking a short break from the show - you can read more about that here.

Elsewhere in the programme, viewers met a talented 17-year-old and a hard-working mum working in the building trade, and saw former Strictly Come Dancing judge Arlene Phillips meet actress Bonnie Langford and reminisce on her decades-long career.
