Biker suffers broken bones and punctured lung after cycle rack falls from Fiat on A19

A motorcyclist suffered broken bones and a punctured lung after a cycle rack came loose from a car on the A19.

The collision took place at around 12.15pm on Sunday, June 23, along the A19 northbound from the A1027 towards the A689 and involved a Fiat and a BMW motorbike. It was reported that a cycle rack carrying three push bikes came loose from the Fiat and fell onto the carriageway. The driver was reported for having an insecure load.

The motorbike collided with the pushbikes and the rider fell off, coming to stop following a short distance. The rider suffered broken ribs, a fractured collar bone, a fractured arm and a punctured lung.

Police have now launched an appeal asking for anyone with information to come forward, a spokesperson said: "Cleveland Police is appealing for information and any witnesses following a two-vehicle collision on the A19 northbound. Officers are urging anyone with dash camera footage or information to contact 101, quoting reference 117839." Footage can be uploaded here.
