The family of a woman who was stabbed 66 times are horrified that her killer has been granted ‘days out’ ahead of being freed.

William Jaggs, 34, brutally murdered fashion student Lucy Braham, 25, in the grounds of Harrow public school in 2007.

He was sentenced to 11-years in a secure hospital for the sexually-motivated attack, during which he broke into her home and stabbed her 66 times.

As Jaggs was given a hospital order over a jail sentence, the decision of his freedom lies with psychiatrists responsible for his treatment, rather than the probation service.

Much to the anguish of Ms Braham’s family, Jaggs has now been allowed out of his secure unit for outings such as shopping as a stage in a phased release.

Her father wrote: ‘We trust in the expertise of doctors and the judiciary to make sure that he is never freed while he poses a threat to another human being.’

Ms Braham’s father Jason, 68, who worked at the school where she was murdered, plans to write to the authorities calling for them to reconsider his release.

He said: ‘On the evidence I know I feel he is still a danger to the public.

‘If he were to stop taking the medication he was on, and start drug using again, I think there is a serious risk of him going back to his old ways.’

Following the violent murder, Jaggs was sent to Broadmoor after psychiatrists judged he was suffering with schizophrenia.

A statement from Oxford Health NHS foundation Trust said: ‘The trust works with the Ministry of Justice to help patients to safely rehabilitate and recover, including extremely careful monitoring of risk to ensure the safety of both the patient and wider public.’
