Castle sculptures are to be spread across Swansea this summer as part of a spectacular art trail. Taking place for 10 weeks from July 6 until September 15, the 'Castles In The Sky' project will see more than 30 sculptures dotted around in parks, landmark areas and streets.

Each one has been individually designed by a Welsh artist and sponsored by businesses, aiming to provide a fun, family-friendly trail of discovery for visitors or people living in the area to explore and enjoy. A series of mini castle sculptures – ‘Little keepsakes’ – adopted and painted by schools, will also be displayed as part of the trail.

It will follow a similar format to Bristol's famous Wallace and Gromit trail back in 2013, which featured 80 sculptures of Gromit and attracted 1.2 million visitors. Find out about the latest events in Wales by signing up to our What's On newsletter here.

The large castle sculptures will eventually be auctioned to raise funds for Wales Air Ambulance after the trail is over. The event is brought to Swansea by Wild in Art, one of the leading producers of spectacular public art events which says it aims to "enrich, entertain, inform and connect communities – giving people of all ages a voice through art".

A preview of the event reads: "Castles in the Sky is a special event that promotes health and wellbeing, brings businesses and communities together and help boost the regional economy across Swansea. Whilst exciting and inspiring people of all ages, the trail will also increase public awareness and raise vital funds for Wales Air Ambulance, enabling the charity to provide lifesaving critical care across Wales, 24 hours a day. This moat-ally unique event is free for all and the perfect summer holiday activity, even on a reign-y day. Your challenge is to find all the Castles across Swansea, joust give it a go."
