Yahoo News Picture special as petrolheads flock to Raby Castle's Classic Car Show
Raby Castle's Classic Car Show was thrust up another gear this year as the annual event drew its largest crowd ever.
Hundreds of car enthusiasts flocked to the medieval castle and garden in Staindrop, near Darlington, on Sunday to enjoy the parade of vintage vehicles.
From 1950s motors to modern classics, over 2,200 visitors took part in the timeless transport at the nostalgic event, which featured everything from brass cars and tractors to Hot Rods and competition cars.

Created in a collaboration between Raby Castle and Durham Automobile Club, the Classic Car Show featured more than 800 cars this year.

Attendees could also visit the magnificent new spaces across 24 acres which have recently opened up as part of ‘The Rising’ scheme.

These offer visitors the chance to take in beautiful walled gardens, stylish shopping and free to visit exhibition space in the Coach House alongside two restored heritage buildings now used as unique event spaces.

Raby’s Estate Chef also served up breakfast to visitors and exhibitors at the popular event.

This was followed by lunch featuring Raby Longhorn Beef burgers on the barbecue in the Deer Park alongside lunch in The Vinery Café.

Sophie Brown, sales and events manager, said it was an "amazing feeling" to welcome so many crowds to the 2024 show.

She explained: “Our Classic Car Show event has always been extremely popular but to have welcomed the biggest numbers of visitors this year is a wonderful achievement.

“It’s been a momentous year for Raby Castle following the opening of The Rising last month and it’s an amazing feeling to have built on this success, welcoming visitors with all kinds of interests to our special attraction.”

"This month sees the return of our Auto Italia Car Day on 21st July and we’re really looking forward to welcoming back both new and existing exhibitors to this for another brilliant event."
