Drivers travelling along Narborough Road face weeks of disruption from the end of the month. Closures, bus diversions and stopping restrictions are all on the cards of the strip of the busy route into the city between its junctions with Kingsway and Fosse Park Avenue.

The restrictions are due to work by the National Grid which is undertaking a “power grid reinforcement scheme” in the area. They are needed for public safety, highways authority Leicestershire County Council has said.

The first closure will be in effect from 8pm on Friday, June 8, until 6am on Monday, July 1. This will be a “full closure” between the junctions of Hazel Drive and Kingsway. The same stretch will close again from 8pm on Friday, July 5, to 6am on Monday, July 7.

A one-way closure is then planned for the southbound side, heading towards Fosse Park, of the route between Hazel Drive and the Narborough Road South link. This will be in play from 8pm on Friday, July 12, to 6am on Monday, July 15. It will be repeated the following weekend between the same hours on Friday, July 19, and Monday, July 22.

Access to the ASDA car par from the Narborough Road South Service Road will be blocked between 8pm on Friday, July 26, and Monday, July 29. Waiting and loading restrictions will be in play between Kingsway and Hazel Drive between Friday, June 28, and Friday, July 12.

Various bus lane closures are planned between Monday, July 22, and Tuesday, August 13. Diversions for drivers will be signposted during the closures.
