An ice cream van driver who started serving drivers and passengers who were stuck in queues on the M62 at the weekend has been branded a “genius”.

The ice cream owner started serving up ice cream to drivers who were stuck in seven mile tailbacks on the M62 on Saturday, June 22.

The image was shared on Facebook by The Pride of Willenhall Coventry with the caption: “What a legend this man is. Seven mile tailback on the M62 yesterday, so this ice cream van starts selling ice creams to all them trapped in the traffic.”

The photo shows cars queueing from bumper to bumper in miles of tailbacks. Around 12 people can be seen standing in line for the ice cream van, which is located towards the front of the queues. More drivers and passengers can be seen making their way down the hard shoulder towards the van.

People took to the comments of the post to brand the ice cream van owner “brilliant” and a “genius”. Kerris Milligan commented: “Good for him! Keeping folks cool, hydrated and amused,” while Carl Fitzpatrick added: "A genius."

Gwen Jones wrote: “Brilliant, fair play to him!,” and Jeanie Rollins said: “Wow, brilliant news.” Pete McEvoy said: “That's how you make money in an unexpected situation,” Carolle Garbett commented: “Brilliant”.

However, the post was met with some negativity from people in the comments who accused the ice cream van driver of “profiteering” from the traffic queues.
