A dad was found dead in his hotel room while on a stag do.

The man, believed to to be in his late 40s, was found at the Eleanor Rigby apartments on Stanley Street in Liverpool city centre at about 9am yesterday (Sunday). Paramedics were called but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Paul Fleming, the owner of the hotel, said the man had been staying with a group of around 13 other men on a stag do from Cumbria, the Liverpool ECHO reports.

He said: "He was a dad of a five-year-old daughter. I have daughters myself and I was upset myself. I was thinking that could happen to anyone at any time. We all asked if there was anything we could have done.

"We're trying to reach out to the family now to offer any support we can. It's such a tragedy to go for a night out and not come home."

He said the group had arrived in Liverpool on Saturday, and that the rest of the party had gone for a walk on Sunday morning, leaving the man alone in the room. He was found by other guests and a member of hotel staff, who dialled 999.

A Merseyside Police spokesman said: "We were contacted at just after 10am on Sunday, June 30, following the death of a man in his 40s at a flat on Stanley Street in Liverpool city centre. There are no suspicious circumstances and the matter has been referred to the coroner."

A North West Ambulance Service spokesman said: "We attended an incident on Stanley Street following a call at 9.01am. We didn't take a patient to hospital."
